Air Fryer Baked Potato Recipe
Description
Potatoes are scrubbed, dried, and pricked to allow steam to escape during cooking. Coated with olive oil and sprinkled with kosher salt, they are placed in the air fryer basket with space for air circulation. At 400°F, they bake for about 30 minutes, then tested by pressing or piercing to check doneness. If firm, they cook up to 10 minutes longer. This method delivers a crisp, well-seasoned skin and a fully cooked interior with a soft, fluffy texture.
The baked potatoes can be split open and dressed with a variety of toppings like butter, sour cream, cheese, or fresh herbs for added flavor and creaminess. Their texture and flavor make them a versatile side dish or light main.
They can be stored cooled in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to three days and reheated using several methods without losing quality. Also, cooked potatoes can be frozen after wrapping to extend storage, then thawed and reheated when needed.
Ingredients
- 4 medium russet potato scrubbed clean and dried
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
Optional Toppings
- butter
- sour cream
- cheese
- fresh herbs
Instructions
- Prick each of the potatoes with a fork or sharp knife. Brush or rub the potatoes with olive oil and sprinkle with salt. Then, arrange the potatoes in the air fryer basket, leaving ample room around the potatoes for the air to circulate as the potatoes cook.
- Set the heat to 400º F and the timer for 30 minutes. At 30 minutes, pull open the air fryer and gently press on the sides of the potato or prick the center with a sharp paring knife. If it easily yields, the potato is done. If not, return it to the basket and set the timer for up to 10 more minutes.
- Split open the baked potatoes with a knife and add your preferred toppings.
Notes
- Store cooked potatoes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat thoroughly before serving.
- For freezing, cool cooked potatoes completely, wrap in foil, and place in freezer-safe bags for up to 3 months.
- To serve frozen potatoes, thaw overnight in the refrigerator and reheat in the air fryer, microwave, or oven until hot.
