Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
Description
Air Fryer Baked Potatoes start with medium-sized russet potatoes, cleaned, dried, and pierced with a fork. Coated with olive oil and a mix of finely ground sea salt, garlic powder, and black pepper, the potatoes go into a preheated air fryer at 390°F. They cook for 30 to 40 minutes, flipped halfway, and are done when a fork easily pierces through the flesh. The olive oil and salt help draw out moisture from the skin, which crisps as the dry heat circulates in the air fryer.
The baked potatoes have a distinctive crispy, flavorful skin and a fluffy interior. They can be served with various toppings like butter, cheese, bacon, Greek yogurt, or chives, adapting to many meal styles.
To optimize crispiness, ensure potatoes are thoroughly dry before cooking and avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to maintain proper air circulation. The cooking time depends on potato size and should be checked for doneness by texture or an internal temperature of 205°F.
Ingredients
- 4 russet potato medium sized, scrubbed and rinsed
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp sea salt finely ground
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes at 390 degrees F.
- While it is preheating clean and dry the potatoes. Pierce each potato with a fork a few times to release steam as they are cooking.
- Rub each potato with olive oil.
- In a small bowl combine spices then rub potato skins with the spices.
- Place potatoes in the air fryer basket.
- Cook potatoes for 30 - 40 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- They are ready when a fork easily pierces through them. Cooking time may vary depending on the size of potatoes.
- Carefully remove potatoes from air fryer basket, slice lengthwise and pinch each side of the potatoes, forcing the inside of the potato up. Serve with butter, bacon, cheese, Greek yogurt, chives etc.
Notes
- Ensure potatoes are completely dry before seasoning to promote crispy skin instead of steaming.
- Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket so air can circulate evenly around each potato.
- Seasoning the potato skin with salt and spices before cooking helps draw out moisture for better crispness.
- Cooking time varies by potato size; test doneness by piercing with a fork or checking for an internal temperature of 205°F.
