Air Fryer Breakfast Sausage Wrapped in Bacon

Air fryer breakfast sausage wrapped in bacon is sweet, savory and delicious. Air fryer (or baked) sausage links and patties don't disappoint.

Ingredients

  • 16 pork breakfast sausage links or sausage patties see note below
  • 8 lices bacon, regular or thick cut
  • 2 - 4 tablespoons brown sugar, if desired
  • ¼ cup Maple syrup, if desired
  • Cooking spray or butter
  • Toothpicks if desired, soaked in water

Easy Homemade Sausage Patties (8 patties)

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 ½ teaspoons sage leaves, dried
  • ½ teaspoon thyme leaves, dried
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • pinch cayenne, if desired
  • cooking spray or 2 - 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, if frying

Instructions

Bacon Wrapped Breakfast Sausage Links

  1. Get out all of your ingredients.
  2. Slice your bacon strips in half.
  3. Using your finger, spread a pinch or two of brown sugar on each strip of bacon, rubbing brown sugar down the length of each bacon strip.
  4. Place sausage at one end of bacon strip with a toothpick, if desired, and roll tightly, stretching the bacon strip to reach the other end of the sausage, overlapping the bacon slice as you go.
  5. Secure the other end with a toothpick, if desired, and remove any excess bacon.
  6. Repeat process with all of your remaining sausages.

  1. Prepare your fryer basket or rack with cooking spray.
  2. Place finished, rolled bacon wrapped breakfast sausages on fryer rack or basket not touching at all. You may need to make your bacon wrapped sausages in two batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
  3. FOR THIN BACON: Set your temperature to 390 degrees, then after 7 minutes, carefully adjust all of your sausages, flip them and cook for another 7-9 minutes.
  4. FOR THICK BACON: Set your temperature to 400 degrees, then after 8 minutes, carefully adjust all of your sausages, flip them over and cook for another 8 minutes.
  5. At this point the sausage is cooked, so set your timer for another 5 minutes or until bacon is cooked to your liking.
  6. Serve and enjoy every bite.

Bacon Wrapped Breakfast Sausage Links In Oven

  1. Place finished, rolled REGULAR bacon wrapped breakfast sausages on your prepared baking sheet.
  2. You must use a rack to separate your baking sausages from the dripping bacon grease. Also, brown sugar can burn easily so you don't want your sausages touching the drippings just in case they burn too.
  3. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
  4. Place wrapped sausages on your prepared pan.
  5. Brush maple syrup all over each bacon wrapped sausage, if desired.
  6. Bake for 35-42 minutes with regular bacon, bacon is crisp and sausage is cooked. Turn baking sheet and adjust bacon wrapped sausages at the 15 minute mark if at all possible to make sure bacon touching rack is totally cooked as well.
  7. Remove from oven, discard toothpicks, if used, and allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving.

  1. You must use a rack to separate your baking sausage patties from the dripping bacon grease. Also, brown sugar can burn easily so you don't want your sausages touching the drippings just in case they burn too.
  2. Prepare a rimmed baking sheet with tinfoil and a wire rack coated with cooking spray.
  3. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  4. Cut bacon strips in half.
  5. Place each half strip on a prepared surface or cutting board. Sprinkle brown sugar along both ends of each bacon strip.
  6. Place sausage patty flat in the middle of each bacon strip, then wrap the bacon ends up around the patty so the ends meet at the top.
  7. This is where you can you use the toothpicks if you wish, but the brown sugar will hold the bacon around the patty.
  8. Place wrapped sausages on your prepared pan.
  9. Brush maple syrup all over each bacon wrapped sausage patty if desired.
  10. Bake for 40-45 minutes with regular bacon, bacon is crisp and sausage is cooked. Turn baking sheet and adjust bacon wrapped sausages at the 20 minute mark if at all possible to make sure bacon touching rack is totally cooked as well.
  11. Remove from oven, discard toothpicks if you used them and allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Homemade Sausage Patties

  1. In a mixing bowl combine ground pork, garlic, syrup, sage, thyme, salt, pepper and cayenne, if using.
  2. Gently mix until blended together.
  3. Make 2 ½ to 3 inch sized patties, between ½ and ¾ inch thick. There should be 8 of them total.
  4. We store fresh sausage patties inside our freezer, defrost, wrap in bacon and air fry them. So good and so easy to do.
  5. If you want to quickly fry your homemade breakfast sausage without bacon simply follow the directions below. Otherwise these fresh sausage patties can be kept covered inside your fridge for up to 24 hours or up to two months inside your freezer.

Fry Method For Sausage Without Bacon

  1. Melt a couple tablespoons of butter in your skillet over medium heat. Cook, until nicely browned and cooked, somewhere between 3 and 5 minutes per side.
  2. To cook frozen sausage patties, add some butter to your skillet and cook patties from frozen, 7 to 9 minutes per side.
  3. Allow to drain on a paper towel lined plate and repeat until all sausage patties are cooked.

Notes

  • You can use store bought sausage patties as long as they are uncooked and defrosted for this recipe.
