Air Fryer Buffalo Cauliflower

Air Fryer Buffalo Cauliflower offers crisp cauliflower florets coated in a seasoned batter of flour, cornstarch, and spices, air-fried to a golden crunchy texture. Brushed with buffalo sauce for tangy heat, the florets provide a spicy, crispy snack or appetizer option. Vegan ranch dressing serves as a cooling dip to balance the heat.

Description

This recipe begins by whisking together all-purpose flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and water to form a smooth batter. Cauliflower florets are tossed in the batter to coat thoroughly. Excess batter is allowed to drip off before arranging the florets in a single layer in the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking.

At 400°F, the cauliflower is air-fried initially for 9 minutes, then turned, brushed with buffalo sauce, and cooked an additional 5 to 10 minutes until the edges are crisp and darkened. The browning provides a contrast between the tender cauliflower inside and the crunchy coating.

The buffalo sauce adds the characteristic tangy, mildly spicy flavor common to buffalo dishes. Serving with vegan ranch dressing softens the spice and adds a creamy element. This recipe suits those seeking a vegetarian or vegan spicy snack that is lighter than traditional fried buffalo wings.

Ingredients

Servings
  • cup all-purpose flour spooned and leveled
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt sea salt
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 head cauliflower about 2 pounds, broken into large florets
  • buffalo sauce for brushing
  • vegan ranch dressing for dipping, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and salt. Add the water and whisk until smooth. Add the cauliflower and stir to coat.
  3. Lift the cauliflower florets out of the batter, allowing any excess batter to drip back into the bowl. Arrange in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving a little space around each floret. Don’t crowd the basket. Work in batches as necessary.
  4. Air fry for 9 minutes. Remove from the air fryer and use a spatula to carefully flip the florets. Brush with some of the buffalo sauce. Air fry for another 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cauliflower is dark and crisp around the edges.
  5. Remove from the air fryer and brush with additional buffalo sauce. If desired, serve with vegan ranch for dipping.
