Air Fryer Buffalo Cauliflower

Air Fryer Buffalo Cauliflower features cauliflower florets coated in a thick batter, then rolled in a mixture of panko and seasoned bread crumbs before air frying to a crisp. After cooking, the cauliflower is tossed in spicy buffalo sauce for a flavorful, crispy snack or appetizer. The method ensures tender interior with a crunchy exterior and a balanced heat from the buffalo sauce.

Description

Air Fryer Buffalo Cauliflower starts with bite-sized cauliflower pieces dipped in a batter made from flour, milk, olive oil, and garlic powder, which helps the breading adhere. The breading combines panko and seasoned bread crumbs, enhanced with olive oil and seasoning to form a crispy coating. Air frying at first 350°F and then 400°F crisps the exterior while maintaining tenderness inside. Tossing the cooked cauliflower in buffalo sauce gives it a tangy, spicy finish.

This dish works well served with traditional accompaniments like carrot sticks, celery, and blue cheese or ranch dressing, offering a contrast to the heat and crunch. Cooking in batches prevents overcrowding which helps the air fryer deliver even crisping.

Using actual buffalo sauce (not just hot sauce) is critical for intended flavor. Letting excess batter drip off before breading reduces sogginess. For crisper results, consider serving additional hot sauce or garlicky aioli as dips instead of coating all pieces directly.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 head cauliflower
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • ½ cup seasoned bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • ½ cup buffalo sauce

Batter

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash, dry, and cut cauliflower into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Whisk batter ingredients until smooth and toss with cauliflower.
  3. Combine Panko bread crumbs, seasoned bread crumbs, olive oil, and salt & pepper to taste.
  4. Remove cauliflower from the batter and allow excess to drip off. Gently roll cauliflower in the bread crumb mixture. Repeat with remaining cauliflower.
  5. Preheat air fryer to 350°F. Place cauliflower in a single layer in the air fryer.
  6. Cook for 5 minutes. Increase heat to 400°F and cook an additional 5-7 minutes or until cauliflower is tender inside and crisp outside.
  7. Toss with sauce and cook an additional 2-3 minutes.
  8. Serve with carrot sticks, celery and blue cheese or ranch dressing if desired.

Notes

  • Use buffalo sauce rather than standard hot sauce for authentic flavor.
  • Allow excess batter to drip off before breading to maintain crust crispness.
  • Cook cauliflower in a single layer to avoid overcrowding and ensure even air circulation.
  • Serving extra hot sauce or garlicky aioli on the side can keep breading crisp and add dipping options.
