Air Fryer Cajun Salmon
Description
The recipe combines a mix of smoked paprika, kosher salt, garlic powder, black and white pepper, onion powder, oregano, cayenne, and thyme to create a complex Cajun rub. This seasoning imparted on salmon filets coated with olive oil ensures the spices adhere well and penetrate the fish's surface. Air frying at 400°F cooks the filets evenly without drying, preserving moisture and flakiness. The salmon is done when it flakes easily and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F.
Serving the salmon with a fresh lemon wedge and chopped parsley adds brightness and a hint of freshness that complements the spice blend. This method provides a straightforward way to enjoy spiced salmon quickly without added fats from pan-frying or grilling.
The recipe includes oven instructions as an alternative, using the same seasoning blend and baking at 400°F for 8-12 minutes. The seasoning mix can be adjusted to taste, offering flexibility depending on preferred spice levels.
Ingredients
Cajun seasoning blend
- 1 1/2 Tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 Tbsp kosher salt
- 1 Tbsp garlic powder
- 1/2 Tbsp black pepper
- 1/2 Tbsp onion powder
- 1/2 Tbsp oregano dried
- 1/2 Tbsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp white pepper
- 1 tsp thyme dried
Salmon
- 4 (about 3 oz each) salmon with skin or without, filets
- 2 Tbsp Cajun seasoning (from the recipe above)
- 1 Tbsp olive oil or avocado oil
- lemon for garnish, wedges
- parsley for garnish, fresh, minced
Instructions
Make seasoning blend
- In a small bowl, add all cajun seasoning blend ingredients and stir well to combine.
Prepare salmon
- Brush olive oil over the tops and bottoms of the salmon filets, then rub on all sides with cajun seasoning, dividing the seasoning equally among the filets.
Air fry
- Add salmon filets to air fryer basket, ensuring they’re not touching each other. This may need to be done in batches.
- Set air fryer to cook at 400°F for about 8 minutes, or until cooked through. Salmon is cooked through when cooked to an internal temperature of 145°F, or it flakes easily when pierced with a fork.
Serve
- Remove from basket and sprinkle with parsley and serve with a lemon wedge.
Notes
- This recipe serves four salmon filets; adjust servings as needed.
- Seasoning blends can be modified to suit personal spice preferences.
- The oven method involves baking salmon at 400°F for 8-12 minutes until the fish flakes easily and reaches 145°F internal temperature.
