Air Fryer Cheese Bites

Air Fryer Cheese Bites are crispy cheese cubes coated in a crunchy Flamin’ Hot Cheetos crust. The cheese is coated in egg, flour, and crushed Cheetos crumbs, then frozen before air frying to crisp perfection. This method helps the coating adhere well and prevents the cheese from melting out during cooking. The spicy, crunchy exterior contrasts with the gooey, melted cheese inside, making for a flavorful snack or appetizer.

Description

The Air Fryer Cheese Bites recipe uses blocks of cheese cut into uniform cubes which are double-dipped in an egg and flour mixture before being coated in crushed Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. Freezing the coated cheese cubes before cooking ensures the coating stays intact and the cheese doesn't leak out. Air frying at high heat crisps the coating within 5 minutes, yielding a crunchy, spicy shell enveloping soft, melty cheese. This snack is a distinctive use of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos crumbs that add a spicy kick and vibrant color.

These bites work well as party snacks or a fun appetizer. Since they are fried without traditional oil bathing, they are lighter but still crunchy. The method involves careful dipping and coating to get an even crust and freezing to hold the shape during cooking. They can be made with different cheese varieties, though block cheese works best for uniform shapes and melting qualities.

Full coating and freezing steps are essential for good results. The recipe suggests spraying with oil before air frying to promote browning. Cooking in batches prevents overcrowding for even crisping. Serve immediately to enjoy their crispy exterior and gooey interior.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 8- ounce cheese pepper jack, mozzarella, cheddar, block
  • 2 cups Flamin’ Hot Cheetos crushed
  • ½ cup flour
  • 2 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • cooking oil in a spray bottle

Instructions

  1. Cut the cheese into 16-18 cubes. Keep the size as uniform as possible.
  2. Place the Cheetos in a bag and crush them with a rolling pin. Put them in a bowl.
  3. Put the flour in a different bowl.
  4. In a third bowl, combine the eggs and milk and whisk.
  5. The dipping can be messy, try to just use one hand so once stays clean. Pay attention to the order of the dipping!
  6. Dip each cheese cube in the egg, then in the flour, then the egg mixture again, and finally in the Cheetos crumbs. Make sure the cubes are well coated in the mixture.
  7. Transfer the coated cubes on a plate and freeze for at least one hour.
  8. When ready to cook, preheat the air fryer to 390 degrees F. Spray the frozen cheese cubes with oil from a spray bottle.
  9. Put the cubes in an even layer in the basket of the air fryer. If you don't have a large enough air fryer then cook these in batches.
  10. Air fry for 5 minutes at 390 degrees F. Check them and decide if they are crispy enough or not. Add cooking time 1-2 minutes at a time.

Notes

  • Ensure thorough and even coating on each cheese cube for best texture.
  • Follow the dipping order precisely: egg, flour, egg, then crushed Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.
  • Do not skip freezing; this helps keep the cheese cubes intact during cooking.
  • Preheat the air fryer to achieve consistent cooking temperature.
  • Use block cheese for uniform cubes; cheese curds can be used but may be harder to handle due to irregular shape.
