Air Fryer Chicken Breasts

This Air Fryer Chicken Breasts recipe offers two variations: seasoned whole breasts and thin breaded breasts. Both use simple seasonings including garlic powder, salt, and cracked black pepper. The seasoned method cooks plain breasts sprayed with oil, while the breaded method involves flour, egg, and panko crumb coating for a crispier texture. Cooking times depend on thickness, and air frying reduces added fat while producing juicy and flavorful chicken.

Description

For the seasoned chicken breasts, the recipe instructs to season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then spritz with cooking spray before air frying at 350°F for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway to ensure even cooking.

The thin breaded chicken breasts are halved and pounded to even thickness, then coated in seasoned flour, beaten egg, and panko breadcrumbs before air frying with a cooking spray. This method creates a crunchy exterior while keeping the interior tender.

Cooking times vary by breast thickness; checking for doneness is important to avoid dryness. The recipe suggests using natural olive or vegetable oil sprays safe for air fryers to preserve non-stick coatings.

The seasoned breasts can be refrigerated for up to three days and are suitable for salads or sandwiches, while the breaded version is best served hot for crispness.

Thin Breaded Air Fryer Chicken Breasts

  • 2 chicken breast skinless, boneless
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste, cracked
  • 1 egg small
  • 8 tbsp panko breadcrumbs
  • cooking spray see note

Instructions

To Make Seasoned Air Fryer Chicken Breasts

  1. Season the breasts with the garlic powder, salt and pepper. Spritz with the cooking spray and cook for 15-20 minutes at 350F until the chicken is cooked through, turning halfway. The exact cooking time will depend on the thickness of the breasts.

To Make Thin Breaded Air Fryer Chicken Breasts

  1. Using a sharp knife halve the chicken breasts down the middle so you have two same size, but thinner breast pieces. Using the heel of your hand, lightly bash the thicker bits so the four pieces are of roughly the same thickness.
  2. Combine the flour, garlic powder, and a little salt and pepper in the bottom of a shallow bowl. In another, lightly beat the egg with a little more salt and pepper. In a third, add the panko breadcrumbs.
  3. Dip the chicken pieces first in the flour mixture, then the egg, then the breadcrumbs so they are well coated. Use one hand for the flour and crumbs, and another for the egg to avoid coating your fingers!
  4. Spritz the breaded chicken pieces on both side with cooking spray and cook for 20 minutes at 350F, turning halfway, until the breadcrumbs are golden and crispy.

Notes

  • Use natural olive or vegetable oil cooking sprays compatible with your air fryer to avoid damage to non-stick surfaces.
  • Cooked seasoned chicken breasts can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days and are great for salads and sandwiches.
  • Thin breaded chicken breasts taste best served immediately to maintain crisp exterior texture.
  • Adjust cooking time based on thickness to ensure chicken is cooked through but remains juicy.
  • Nutrition information provided corresponds to the thin breaded chicken breast preparation.
