Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan
Description
Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan features chicken breasts cut into cutlets and coated in a seasoned mixture of breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. The chicken is dipped in beaten eggs before the seasoned breadcrumb mix, then set to rest to help the coating adhere. Air frying at 360 °F crisps the breading on both sides, creating a golden crust and tender interior. A light oil application before cooking aids in browning.
The baking rack helps keep the breaded chicken elevated for even cooking. The Parmesan and Italian seasoning provide a savory flavor base classic to this dish, balanced by the mild mozzarella and tangy spaghetti sauce. Air frying this way replicates a fried texture using minimal oil, making cleanup easier.
Serve the cutlets topped with sauce and melted mozzarella as a main dish, accompanied by pasta, salad, or steamed vegetables for a complete meal. Internal temperature should reach 160 °F to ensure proper doneness.
Resting the breaded chicken before cooking improves coating adherence, and preheating the air fryer ensures crispiness. Seasoned breadcrumbs can be adjusted or omitted if preferred. Avoid overcrowding the basket for even cooking, doing batches if needed.
Ingredients
- 2 chicken breast whole, skinless, or 4 cutlets
- 1 cup plain breadcrumbs
- ½ cup Parmesan Cheese grated
- 2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 egg
- ½ cup spaghetti sauce or marinara sauce
- 4 tablespoon mozzarella cheese shredded
Instructions
- If you are using whole breasts cut them in half lengthwise, to make cutlets. Try to make the halves an even thickness.
- In a medium bowl combine the bread crumbs, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
- In another medium bowl break the eggs and mix to combine the yolk and whites.
- Get out a baking rack to put the slices on after coating.
- Dip each piece in the egg mixture followed by the breadcrumb mixture.
- Put the pieces on the baking rack and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Set the air fryer to 360 °F and let it preheat for 3 minutes.
- Spray or brush a little oil on the chicken to help it brown. Use a spray bottle of oil, not a commercial cooking spray. Then put the cutlets in a single layer in the basket. Don’t overcrowd the pieces in the basket and cook it in batches if necessary.
- Air fry at 360 °F for 6 minutes. Then flip each pieces over and air fry it for another 4 minutes.
- Check that the meat has reached 160 °F internal temperature. If not, air fry it for another 2-3 minutes and check again. The coating will be golden brown when it is done.
- When it has reached 165 °F keep it in the air fryer basket and carefully top each cutlet with 2 tablespoons of spaghetti sauce. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce.
- Air fry it at 360 °F for another 2 minutes to heat the sauce and melt the cheese.
Notes
- Use seasoned breadcrumbs or plain breadcrumbs without added spices to suit taste preferences.
- Let the breaded chicken rest 10 minutes before air frying to help the coating stick better.
- Preheat the air fryer before adding chicken to achieve a crispier crust on the cutlets.
