Air Fryer Filet Mignon
Description
The Air Fryer Filet Mignon uses a whole filet steak seasoned liberally with sea salt and black pepper. The steak is air fried at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes to reach medium rare, with flexibility to adjust cooking time for preferred doneness. The high heat cooks the steak evenly while air circulation creates a delicate crust without flipping.
At the end, a butter infusion with minced garlic and optional fresh herbs is placed atop the hot steak, melting to enrich its surface. Resting the steak for five minutes after cooking allows juices to redistribute, enhancing tenderness and flavor upon slicing.
This straightforward approach is suited for 1.5-inch thick filets, with recommendations to fully thaw frozen steaks beforehand. Using a meat thermometer aids accuracy when targeting specific doneness levels from rare to well done. The garlic butter addition is optional but recommended for added richness.
Ingredients
- 1 filet mignon
- 1 tsp salt sea salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp butter or ghee, softened
- ½ tsp garlic minced
- fresh herbs if desired
Instructions
- First, remove filet mignon from fridge 30 minutes before cooking. This allows the beef to come to room temperature.
- Pat steak dry with paper towels. Season generously on both sides with sea salt and pepper.
- Place steak in air fryer basket. Air fry at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes for medium rare. If needed, continue cooking to desired temperature.
- While steak is cooking, add softened butter and minced garlic to a small bowl. If desired, add in some chopped fresh herbs. Stir to combine.
- Finally, remove steak from air fryer. Place on a plate and put butter on top. Allow it to sit for 5 minutes before slicing into.
Notes
- Use fresh filet mignon and fully thaw frozen steaks before cooking for best results.
- The recommended cook time suits 1.5-inch thick filets; adjust time for different thicknesses.
- Season generously with sea salt and black pepper; alternative seasonings like Montreal steak spice can be used.
- Apply garlic herb butter after cooking to enhance flavor and moisture.
- Use a meat thermometer to confirm internal temperature for desired doneness levels.
- Let steak rest for 5 minutes post-cooking to lock in juices before slicing.
