Air Fryer Fish & Chips
Description
The Air Fryer Fish & Chips recipe uses cod fillets cut into strips, coated first with a seasoned flour mixture, then dipped in beaten egg, and finally coated with panko breadcrumbs for a light crunch. Air frying at a high temperature crisps the coating and cooks the fish evenly until it flakes easily. This method reduces oil usage while maintaining texture comparable to fried fish. The seasoning blend of paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper gives subtle warmth and flavor.
The fish is best served immediately along with tartar sauce and lemon wedges. The crispy coating and tender fish pairing makes it suitable for a quick dinner or casual meal. It can be paired traditionally with fries or salad.
Leftover fish can be stored tightly covered in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days. Reheating in the air fryer at a lower temperature maintains the crispiness better than microwave reheating. Checking doneness with a fork ensures the fish is cooked through but not overdone.
Ingredients
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 egg beaten, large
- ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 pound cod fillet cut into strips
- cooking spray
- tartar sauce for serving
- lemon for serving, wedges
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix the flour with paprika, garlic powder, salt and black pepper. Place the beaten egg in another bowl and the panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
- Pat the fish dry using a paper towel. Dredge the fish in the flour mixture, then the egg and finally the panko breadcrumbs, pressing down lightly until the crumbs stick. Spray both sides with oil.
- Air fry at 400°F, turning halfway through until crispy and lightly golden, about 10-12 minutes.
- Open basket and check for desired doneness with a fork to see if it flakes off easily. You can return the fish for another 1 or 2 minutes, if necessary.
- Serve immediately with fries and tartar sauce, if desired.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
- Reheat fish in the air fryer at 360°F for 2-3 minutes to maintain crispness.
- Microwave reheating is possible but will soften the crispy coating.
- Nutritional information excludes any side fries served with the fish.
