Air Fryer French Fries
Description
These Air Fryer French Fries start with carefully sliced potatoes cut lengthwise into thin strips about 1/4-inch thick. Tossed in olive oil and a simple seasoning of kosher salt, garlic powder, and cracked black pepper ensures a balanced flavor and even crisping. Their even size helps them cook uniformly in the air fryer basket without overlapping, which is crucial for achieving the desired crispness.
The air fryer cooks the fries at high temperature, circulating hot air to produce a golden and crunchy exterior while maintaining a soft interior. The optional addition of grated Parmesan adds a subtle savory note after cooking. Cooking times vary slightly with different equipment, with adjustments noted for toaster style fryers.
This approach is practical for making fries with less oil and mess while still enjoying the texture and taste of homemade fries. They can be served as a side for casual meals or snacks.
Ingredients
- cooking spray nonstick
- 1 potato 6 oz, yukon gold or russet, washed and dried, medium
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
- black pepper to taste, fresh cracked
- Parmesan Cheese optional, grated
Instructions
- Cut the potato lengthwise into 1/4 inch thin slices; then cut each slice into 1/4 inch fries. (A mandolin is helpful here).
- In a medium bowl toss the potatoes and oil. Season with salt, garlic powder and black pepper to taste; toss to coat.
- Place the potatoes in the air fryer basket in an even layer without overlapping or crowding, cook the potatoes 380°F 12 to 15 minutes, turning halfway until crisp.
- Note: If you have a Cuisinart Toaster Style Fryer, cook 350F 12 minutes.
