Ingredients
- ⅔ cup milk
- 3 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 6 lices thick bread such as Brioche or Texas toast
Optional toppings
- maple syrup butter, fresh fruit, powdered sugar
Instructions
- Spray the air fryer basket with a non-stick cooking spray or line it with an air fryer parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, add the the milk egg, vanilla extract and spices and whisk together completely.
- Preheat the air fryer to 360° F
- Dip one piece of bread into the egg mixture.
- Lift it out and let the excess egg drip off, and place the coated bread slice into the air fryer basket.
- Add a 2nd or 3rd piece if your basket is big enough.
- Cook for 6 minutes.
- The flip it over and then cook for and additional 4-6 more minutes until golden brown, checking after 2 minutes as air fryer brands differ in cooking times.
- Repeat with the remaining pieces of bread.
- Serve topped with your favorite toppings like butter, maple syrup, fresh fruit and powdered sugar.
Notes
- Add a tablespoon of sugar to the batter if you prefer it sweet
- Add more of the spices to the egg batter as you cook additional slices if needed.
- Make sure to use air fryer liners or to grease the air frying basket before using otherwise the bread will stick to the basket.
- I like using a thick bread such Brioche, Texas Toast, or Sourdough. Use any bread you have on hand. Thinner bread may cook faster so keep an eye on it.
- Quickly soak the bread but don’t leave it in the batter too long otherwise it may become soggy.
- Refrigerator: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator without toppings for up to 4 days.
- Freeze: Make several pieces and freeze them in a freezer bag for a quick breakfast.
- Reheating: Reheat in the air fryer for a minute or two or for 30 seconds in the microwave. If frozen, heat for a little longer.
