Air Fryer French Toast Sticks

These air fryer French toast sticks are made from brioche bread cut into sticks, dipped in a vanilla-egg-milk mixture, then coated with cinnamon sugar before cooking until golden and crisp. The air fryer method yields a crisp exterior and tender interior. They are immediately ready to serve, paired nicely with maple syrup for breakfast or brunch.

Description

Air Fryer French Toast Sticks are prepared by cutting brioche bread into 1-inch thick slices, then into sticks. The sticks are dipped in a mixture of eggs, milk, and vanilla extract, then rolled in a cinnamon sugar mix. Cooking in the air fryer at 375°F crisps the outside while keeping the inside soft and flavorful. This method offers a convenient way to achieve a classic French toast texture without frying.

The cinnamon sugar coating adds sweetness and spice, while the brioche's softness provides a rich base. Cooking in batches ensures space for even air circulation and uniform crisping. Serving immediately with maple syrup complements the cinnamon sugar coating.

Oven instructions allow baking at 350°F if an air fryer is unavailable. Storing leftovers in airtight containers preserves texture, with guidance for reheating and freezing included. Variations include using different bread types or spices in place of cinnamon.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1/2 loaf brioche bread approx 6 inches long, cut into 1 inch slices
  • 3 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk or try half and half, heavy cream, different % of milks, or plant-based milks, whole
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup cane sugar try coconut sugar, monk fruit or your favorite sugar replacement, all-natural
  • 3/4 tablespoon cinnamon ground

Instructions

  1. Cut the loaf of brioche bread into 1-inch-thick slices. Then cut each slice into thirds, so you have 3 thin French toast sticks per piece.
  2. Preheat air fryer to 375 degrees F and line your basket with parchment paper.
  3. In a medium, shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk and vanilla.
  4. In another shallow bowl (large enough to roll the dipped French toast sticks in the cinnamon-sugar mixture), mix together cinnamon and sugar mixture.
  5. Dip each piece of Brioche into the egg mixture, making sure it's evenly covered, allowing excess to drip off, then transfer the stick (into the sugar mixture, turning to coat completely.
  6. Place on parchment lined baking sheet, continue dipping and coating until you have enough to fill your air fryer, without crowding.
  7. Place french toast sticks in preheated air fryer, without crowding and cook for 3 minutes, then turn each stick and cook additional 3-4 minutes. You will probably need to work in batches.
  8. Serve immediately served with maple syrup, powdered sugar, honey, whipped cream, berries or whatever you like!

Notes

  • Oven method: Bake coated sticks at 350°F for 13 minutes per side until golden and cooked through.
  • Keep cooked sticks warm on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a warm oven setting.
  • To freeze, chill coated sticks on a parchment-lined tray for 1 hour, then store airtight up to 3 months; air fry to reheat.
  • Store leftovers in airtight containers for up to 5 days refrigerated or freeze up to 3 months.
  • Use various bread types like French bread, Challah, or Texas toast, adjusting cook time as needed.
  • Milk alternatives and spices, such as pumpkin pie spice, may be substituted to vary flavor and richness.
