Air Fryer Fried Pickles

Report
This recipe makes crispy fried pickles using an air fryer, providing a lighter alternative to deep frying. Dill pickle slices are coated in a three-step breading method of flour, an egg and milk wash, and panko bread crumbs, then cooked in a single layer at 400°F until crispy. The final result is a crunchy, tangy snack that can be salted and served with dipping sauces like ranch.

Description

Air Fryer Fried Pickles starts by preparing three bowls: one with flour, a second with beaten eggs and milk, and a third with panko bread crumbs. Dill pickle slices are dipped sequentially into the flour, then the egg wash, and finally the panko crumbs to ensure an even coating. After coating all the slices, they are air fried at 400°F in a single layer, sprayed lightly with cooking oil to promote browning and crispiness, for 7 to 10 minutes depending on desired crunch.

The coated pickles develop a golden, crunchy exterior that contrasts with the tart and juicy pickle inside. This air frying method captures the texture and flavor of traditional fried pickles but uses less oil, making it a less greasy option. Salt is added after cooking to enhance the savory profile.

The fried pickles are typically enjoyed warm and pair well with creamy dipping sauces such as ranch. Their crispy texture and tangy filling make them a popular appetizer or snack, great for serving at gatherings or as an accompaniment to other dishes.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 25 dill pickles I used the waffle cut but either will work, sliced
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 egg large
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • cooking spray

Instructions

  1. You will need 3 small bowls. Place flour in one bowl, eggs and milk in a second bowl (beat them together) and then the Panko crumbs in a third bowl.
  2. Coat the sliced pickles in the flour, then in the egg mixture and then in the bread crumb mixture. Place on a separate plate until ready to air fry.
  3. Continue to do this until all of the pickles have been coated.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F. *Note: If your air fryer does not have a preheat option than run your air fryer at 400 degrees F for 5 minutes to heat up the air fryer.
  5. Place the pickles in the air fryer in a single layer (do not overlap), spray the tops of the pickles with oil spray to make them brown when they cook and cook at 400 degrees F for 7-10 minutes until your pickles are cooked to the crispiness that you prefer.
  6. Serve topped with salt with your favorite dipping sauces. I served mined with ranch.
