Air Fryer Frozen French Fries
Description
The Air Fryer Frozen French Fries recipe uses frozen fries cooked at 400°F in an air fryer to create a crispy texture without added oil. The method involves preheating the air fryer, distributing fries evenly, and cooking for about 18 to 20 minutes with intermittent shaking to ensure even browning. Seasoning with fine salt after frying improves flavor distribution and adheres well to the fries. This recipe adapts to various air fryer models including toaster and basket styles, with potential cooking time adjustments noted.
The fries have a crunchier exterior and tender interior achieved by the controlled air frying process. Shaking the basket or tray every 5 minutes ensures all sides crisp evenly. The seasoning after cooking allows for customization and better adhesion of flavors compared to pre-seasoning. The recipe skips any oil addition but acknowledges that a light spray or brush of oil is optional.
These fries work well as a side or snack and maintain their texture best when served soon after cooking. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to promote even cooking and crisping, preparing in batches if necessary.
The notes advise following your air fryer’s manual regarding preheating and timing, as results vary by model and type of fries. Fine salt is recommended for seasoning after cooking to enhance taste without moisture issues. Regular shaking of fries distributes heat and browning evenly, optimizing the crispiness without adding oil.
Ingredients
- 16 oz frozen French fries in bag
- ½ teaspoon salt adjust to taste, fine
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F
- Place the frozen fries in the air fryer basket or tray and make sure to distribute them evenly.
- Cook the fries for about 10 minutes, and then shake the tray at least once or twice to distribute the fries and make sure they brown evenly.
- Cook for another 5 minutes, and then keep checking every 2 minutes till they're done to your consistency. I typically cook mine for a total of 18-20 minutes and they're perfect!Note: I mainly use a Breville air fryer (which is toaster style!) If you use a basket air fryer, your fries will be done in~ 15 minutes (vs. 20 mins for toaster air fryers).
- Transfer fries to a bowl and then season with fine salt and other seasonings of your choice. Check the post for seasoning options!
Notes
- Preheat the air fryer, unless your model advises otherwise, to achieve crispier fries.
- Do not overcrowd the basket; cook fries in batches to allow even browning.
- Shake the basket or tray every 5 minutes during cooking to promote uniform crisping.
- Season fries after cooking with fine salt and preferred seasonings for even flavor coverage.
- Adjust cooking time based on your air fryer type—basket models usually cook faster than toaster types.
- No need to thaw fries before cooking; they cook well from frozen.
