Air Fryer Green Bean Fries Recipe

Air Fryer Green Bean Fries coat fresh green and yellow beans in flour, beaten eggs, and a parmesan-panko breadcrumb mixture before air frying to a crisp texture. These fries offer a crunchy exterior with a tender vegetable interior, served best with dipping sauces. They are a lighter alternative to traditional fried snacks and bring a pleasant nutty flavor from the parmesan.

Description

This recipe uses lightly damp green and yellow beans dipped first in flour, then beaten eggs, and finally seasoned panko breadcrumbs mixed with grated parmesan, salt, and pepper. The breaded beans are arranged in a single layer in a preheated air fryer and cooked at 380°F for 10 minutes, flipped halfway, producing a golden crust. The beans remain tender inside with a crispy coating.

The combination of panko and parmesan cheese provides both texture and flavor, while the light breading keeps the fries from becoming heavy. The air frying method reduces oil use while maintaining crunch. Optionally, spraying with oil before cooking enhances crispness.

These green bean fries work well as a snack or side dish paired with savory dipping sauces. They offer a vegetable-based alternative to traditional fries with added umami from the cheese.

Leftovers can be stored for up to four days in the refrigerator but do not freeze well. Reheating in the air fryer at 350°F revives the crunchiness. Using one wet and one dry hand during breading minimizes mess. The fries can also be oven baked at 400°F on parchment paper with some cooking oil spray for a similar crispiness.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 egg beaten
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese grated
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 pound Green bean
  • 1 pound yellow bean
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper optional

Instructions

  1. Wash the green and yellow beans, but don’t dry them. If they are somewhat damp the flour will stick to them better.
  2. Get three shallow bowls. Place the flour in one and the beaten eggs in another. Finally, combine the panko breadcrumbs and grated parmesan in a third bowl, along with the salt and pepper. Stir to mix it all together.
  3. Pick up a bean and dip it the flour. Then dip it into the bowl of eggs, and finally dip in the panko breading mix. Put the breaded green beans on a cutting board.
  4. Repeat with the rest of the string beans.
  5. Preheat the air fryer at 380 degrees F for 3 minutes. Then put the beans in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You will have to make this recipe in 2-3 batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
  6. Air fry at 380 ˚F for 10 minutes. Half way through pull out the basket and flip the beans or shake it.
  7. Serve right away with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Store air fried green bean fries in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350°F for 3 minutes to restore crispness.
  • Use one wet and one dry hand during breading steps to reduce mess.
  • For extra crispiness, lightly spray beans with olive oil before air frying.
  • You can bake the breaded beans at 400°F on parchment paper, spraying with oil to crisp up.
