Description
Green beans are rinsed, trimmed, and dried before being coated evenly with olive oil and salt. They are air-fried at 375°F for 6 to 7 minutes until crisp yet tender. Separately, a mixture of grated Pecorino Romano cheese, seasoned breadcrumbs, garlic, paprika, parsley, black pepper, and a bit of oil is combined to create a flavorful topping.
After the initial air-fry, this topping is sprinkled over the beans, spritzed lightly with olive oil spray, then air-fried an additional 2 minutes until the topping is golden. The dish combines the fresh crunch of green beans with a savory, crispy, slightly spicy breadcrumb-cheese crust.
If an air fryer is not available, roasting the green beans on a sheet pan at 425°F for 15 minutes, stirring halfway, then adding the crumb topping and cooking 2 to 3 more minutes is a suitable alternative.
Ingredients
- 1 pound green beans (rinsed, trimmed and patted dry)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (divided)
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt plus 1/8 teaspoon
- 2 garlic minced or pressed through a garlic press, small cloves
- 2 ½ tablespoons Pecorino Romano cheese grated, or Parmesan cheese
- 1 ½ tablespoon seasoned breadcrumbs (such as 4C or gluten-free crumbs)
- ½ teaspoon paprika sweet
- ½ teaspoon parsley dried
- ⅛ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the green beans, 2 teaspoons olive oil and ¼ teaspoon kosher salt. Toss to evenly coat.
- Add the green beans to the air fryer basket and air fry 375F 6 to 7 minutes, shaking the basket halfway, until crisp tender.
- Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, garlic, ⅛ teaspoon salt, paprika, parsley, black pepper and remaining 1 teaspoon oil and mix well. Open the air fryer basket and evenly spread over the green beans, then spritz with olive oil spray. Air fry 375F for 2 minutes until golden.
- Transfer beans to a serving platter and serve immediately.
Notes
- If you don’t have an air fryer, roast the green beans on a sheet pan at 425°F for 15 minutes, stirring halfway through.
- Add the breadcrumb and cheese topping after roasting, then cook an additional 2 to 3 minutes until golden.
