Air Fryer Green Beans with Garlic (Chinese-style)

These Air Fryer Green Beans are tossed in a savory blend of sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic, and rice vinegar for a Chinese-inspired side dish. Cooking in the air fryer crisps the outside while keeping the inside tender. Fresh green beans get a subtle umami and tangy flavor, enhanced by optional sesame seeds or red pepper flakes for added texture and mild heat.

Description

Air Fryer Green Beans with Garlic (Chinese-style) prepares fresh green beans by trimming ends and coating them evenly with a mixture of sesame or olive oil, soy sauce, rice vinegar, fresh minced garlic, and black pepper. The beans are cooked in an air fryer at 380°F (193°C) for 6 to 8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway to ensure even crisping. This method yields green beans with a pleasantly tender crispness without overcooking.

The seasoning blend provides a balance of nuttiness from sesame oil, acidity from rice vinegar, and savory umami from soy sauce, while garlic adds aromatic depth. Optional ginger, sesame seeds, or red pepper flakes can complement or elevate the flavor profile.

This dish serves well as a warm side for Asian-inspired meals or as a flavorful vegetable snack. The air fryer method reduces oil usage while still achieving desirable texture and flavor.

Frozen green beans can be used, though they may be less crispy and may require additional cooking time. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to maintain crispness by cooking in batches if needed. Serve immediately after cooking for the best texture.

Notes

  • Frozen green beans can be used but may be less crisp; add 2-3 minutes to air fry time.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches for even crisping.
  • Serve immediately after cooking to keep the green beans crisp and fresh.
  • Try alternative seasonings such as onion powder, cumin, paprika, or red chili flakes for varied flavors.
  • To add an Indian twist, include ground cumin, turmeric, and garam masala in the seasoning.
