Description
Air Fryer Grilled Cheese sandwiches are built by spreading mayonnaise on one side of thick-cut bread slices to create a crispy, browned crust once cooked. Cheese slices—cheddar or colby jack—are placed between the bread with the unspread sides facing inward. The sandwich cooks in an air fryer basket at 380°F for 4 minutes on each side, allowing the cheese to melt thoroughly while the bread crisps up nicely. The parchment lining helps prevent sticking and makes cleanup easier.
This method provides a convenient alternative to pan-frying, producing crunchy, evenly toasted bread and melted cheese with little fuss. The sandwich should be cut and eaten warm to enjoy the melty center and crisp exterior.
Ingredients
- 4 bread thick cut slices
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 4-6 ounces cheddar cheese or colby jack cheese, 4-6 slices
Instructions
- Slather mayo on one side of each piece of bread.
- Lay bread, unspread side up on a cutting board or work surface. Evenly divide the cheese between two of the slices of bread and top with the other 2 slices, mayonnaise side up.
- Place them in an air fryer basket (preferably lined with parchment) and set to 380°F. *(Use 370°F for thinner slices of bread).
- Cook for 4 minutes, flip and cook an additional 4 minutes.
- Remove, cut and eat.
