Air Fryer Ham
Description
The recipe starts by preheating the air fryer to 320°F and wrapping a roughly 3-pound cooked ham in foil, sealed with the seam on top. The ham is initially cooked in this sealed state for 25 minutes to heat evenly. Meanwhile, a glaze combining brown sugar, honey, orange or pineapple juice, and dry mustard powder is mixed.
After the initial cook, the ham is unwrapped, glazed, and returned to the air fryer wrapped again to cook for another 10 to 15 minutes or until an internal temperature of 135-140°F is reached. Then the foil is folded back to allow the glaze to brown, cooking until the ham reaches 145°F. After a resting period, the ham is ready to slice.
The method ensures a moist and flavorful ham with a sticky, browned glaze. The notes suggest that if an air fryer isn't available, this ham can be baked in the oven or cooked in a slow cooker. Adjustments to cooking time may be necessary for ham shape or if pre-sliced.
Ingredients
- 1 small ham about 3 pounds, fully cooked
Glaze
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon orange juice or pineapple juice
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard powder
Instructions
- Preheat air fryer to 320°F.
- Wrap ham in foil, ensuring that the seam is at the top so it can be opened.
- Place the wrapped ham in the air fryer and cook 25 minutes.
- While ham is cooking, combine glaze ingredients.
- After 25 minutes, unwrap the ham and drizzle glaze over top.
- Place back in the air fryer (close seam again) and cook an additional 10-15 minutes or until ham reaches 135-140°F.
- Fold the foil down and cook the ham an additional 5-10 minutes or unti the glaze is browned and the ham reaches 145°F. Rest 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- This recipe can be adapted to bake in the oven or slow cooker if you do not have an air fryer.
- Slice the ham before cooking if it does not fit in your air fryer; adjust cooking times accordingly.
- Use a meat thermometer to avoid overcooking and drying out the ham; the target doneness is 145°F with glaze browned.
- Ham shape affects cooking time—thinner, flatter hams cook faster than rounder ones.
