Air fryer Hot Honey Chicken Recipe
Description
The chicken breasts are prepared by scoring diagonally to allow seasoning to penetrate. A marinade of minced garlic, hot sauce, and smoked spices like paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder is spread over the pieces before air frying at 375°F. The air fryer crisps the outside while keeping the inside moist and tender. An instant-read thermometer ensures safe cooking at 165°F internal temperature.
The hot honey sauce, made by melting butter with honey and additional hot sauce, is basted onto the chicken after cooking, coating it with a glossy, spicy-sweet glaze. This contrast brings out a savory richness and a touch of heat. The method works well with chicken thighs or drumsticks, adjusting cooking times accordingly.
You can customize the heat level by adding hot pepper flakes or cayenne to the seasoning. For a milder version, omit the hot sauce and make a sweet honey chicken. Parchment paper in the air fryer basket helps prevent sticking and simplifies cleanup.

- Place in the air fryer, and cook for 18-20 minutes at 375° F.
- Use an instant-read thermometer to verify the chicken has reached an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.
- While the chicken cooks, put butter, hot sauce, and honey in a shallow bowl and microwave for 10-20 seconds or until the butter is almost melted. Mix together.
- When the chicken is done, take it out and baste it with the butter mixture.
Notes
- Store-bought hot honey sauce can replace the homemade version; use 4 tablespoons if preferred.
- To reduce spiciness, omit hot sauce for a milder honey chicken variation.
- Adding hot pepper flakes or cayenne enhances the heat level of the seasoning.
- Chicken thighs or drumsticks can be used; reduce cooking time to about 15 minutes and verify internal temperature.
