Air Fryer Jalapeño Poppers

Air Fryer Jalapeño Poppers combine fresh jalapeños stuffed with a creamy blend of softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, and garlic powder, then topped with a crunchy panko breadcrumb coating. The air fryer crisps the topping to a golden brown while softly cooking the peppers, creating a textured contrast. These poppers are great for a spicy appetizer or snack, and the air fryer method means less oil and a quicker cook time.

Description

Air Fryer Jalapeño Poppers feature halved jalapeño peppers hollowed to remove seeds and membranes, then filled with a mixture of cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, and garlic powder. Coated with panko breadcrumbs and sprayed with cooking oil, they are cooked in an air fryer at 375°F until the topping turns golden brown and crispy. The creamy cheese filling balances the spice of the jalapeños, with a crunchy breadcrumb topping adding texture.

The cooking process in the air fryer uses hot circulating air to crisp the breadcrumb coating without deep frying, making the poppers less oily but still flavorful. The longer cooking time for some models ensures thorough heating and nicely browned crusts.

These poppers work well served as finger foods or party snacks. Wearing gloves while preparing helps avoid skin irritation from jalapeño oils. The recipe includes tips for hollowing the peppers efficiently, such as outlining the cavity before scooping.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 8 jalapeños
  • 6 oz cream cheese softened
  • ¼ cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 tablespoon panko bread crumbs
  • cooking oil spray

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat the air fryer to 375°F.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, and garlic powder. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the jalapeños. Note: I suggest wearing gloves if you are sensitive to the heat from the jalapeños that will get on your hands. Wash and dry the jalapeños. Using a sharp knife, cut them in half lengthwise. Take a spoon and hollow out the seeds and membranes on the inside of each pepper.
  4. Stuff each jalapeño with the cream cheese mixture and sprinkle Panko bread crumbs on top of each one. Gently pat the Panko crumbs down and shake off any access. Generously spritz the top of the jalapeño poppers with cooking oil spray.
  5. Place the poppers in the air fryer basket leaving some space around each one. Air fry at 375°F for 6-10 minutes or until the Panko bread crumbs are golden brown.

Notes

  • Wear gloves when handling jalapeños to avoid skin irritation from their oils.
  • Preheat the air fryer to ensure even cooking for the jalapeño poppers.
  • If removing membranes and seeds is difficult, outline them with a knife before scooping.
  • Cooking times vary by air fryer model; monitor to achieve golden brown breadcrumbs.
