Air Fryer Onion Rings

Report
This recipe yields crispy air-fried onion rings coated with flour, an egg and milk wash, and panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch. Cooking in the air fryer at 400°F allows for a golden texture without deep frying, making it a practical way to enjoy a classic snack with less oil. The onions remain tender inside while crisp on the outside, best served fresh with your preferred dipping sauce.

Description

The air fryer onion rings start with large onion slices cut into half-inch thick rings separated before coating. The coating process involves three steps: a flour dusting, dipping into a beaten egg and milk mixture, and then rolling in panko breadcrumbs for a crunchy finish. The air fryer preheated to 400°F crisps the onion rings in 7 to 10 minutes, with a light spray of cooking oil to encourage browning.

The result is a snack with a crunchy breadcrumb exterior and a tender cooked onion interior. The air frying method reduces excessive oil usage typical of deep-frying but maintains desirable texture. The onion rings are served sprinkled with salt and pair well with various dipping sauces.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 onion sliced into 1/2? thick pieces and separated into rings, large
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 egg large
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • cooking spray

Instructions

  1. You will need 3 small bowls. Place flour in one bowl, eggs and milk in a second bowl (beat them together) and then the Panko crumbs in a third bowl.
  2. Coat the sliced onions in the flour, then in the egg mixture and then in the bread crumb mixture. Place on a separate plate until ready to air fry.

  5. Place the coated onions in the air fryer in a single layer (do not overlap), spray the tops of the onions with oil spray to make them brown when they cook and cook at 400 degrees F for 7-10 minutes until your onions are cooked to the crispiness that you prefer.
  6. Serve topped with salt with your favorite dipping sauces.
