Air Fryer Pickle Chips Recipe

This Air Fryer Pickle Chips recipe creates crispy, golden fried pickles using a simple three-step coating method with flour, egg wash, and seasoned breadcrumbs. The pickles retain their tangy flavor inside a crunchy, well-seasoned crust enhanced by paprika and garlic powder. Cooking in the air fryer keeps them crisp without excess oil, and the recipe includes tips for slicing, coating, and cooking to ensure a crunchy result. These pickles pair nicely with sauces like Ranch or Sriracha mayo for a flavorful snack or appetizer.

Description

Air Fryer Pickle Chips are made by slicing dill pickles into thin rounds and coating them in flour, egg mixed with milk, and a seasoned breadcrumb mixture including paprika and garlic powder. Cooking the coated pickles in the air fryer with a light spray of non-stick cooking spray helps develop a golden, crispy crust while keeping the inside tangy and juicy. The process involves dipping each slice carefully to ensure the coating adheres well, then cooking in batches with flipping halfway through to achieve even crispness.

The result is a snack with a pleasant contrast between the crunchy exterior and the moist, tangy pickle slice inside. Serving these with Ranch dressing, a special sauce, or a spicy mayo elevates the flavor profile and complements the savory seasoning. The recipe encourages precise slicing around a quarter inch thick for the ideal balance of coating to pickle.

For convenience, you can prep slices ahead or complete the recipe partially in advance and refrigerate for up to five days. Reheating is straightforward by returning them to the air fryer at a lower temperature to regain crispness. Avoid freezing as the coating tends to become soggy. Using separate forks for each coating step helps maintain clean layers and prevents clumping of the breading. These tips help ensure consistent crispiness and flavor in each batch.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 24 oz. dill pickles about 5-6, jar
  • ¼ cup flour gluten-free 1-to-1
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. milk oat, cashew, or soy
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs plain*
  • ½ tsp. paprika
  • ½ tsp. garlic powder
  • ¾ - 1 tsp. salt to taste
  • ¼ tsp. black pepper
  • Non-stick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Slice Pickles: Cut pickles into ¼-inch slices, discarding the ends.
  2. Coat the Pickles: In three separate shallow bowls, prepare the following:
 Bowl 1: Add flour.
Bowl 2: Add egg and milk. Whisk until well combined.
Bowl 3: Add breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Toss until combined.
Dip one pickle slice in the flour mixture and shake off any excess flour, dredge in the egg wash, and then coat with the breadcrumbs.  Repeat this process with the remaining pickle slices.
  3. Cook in Air Fryer: Place half of the coated pickle slices in a single layer in a 6-quart Air Fryer basket. Spray with non-stick cooking spray. Air Fry at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Flip the pickles halfway through cooking. Repeat with the remaining pickles slices.
  4. Serve air fried pickles with Ranch Dressing, Special Sauce, or Sriracha Mayo.

Notes

  • Slice pickles to about ¼-inch thickness for an ideal coating and crunch balance.
  • Use non-stick spray generously to promote a golden crust and prevent drying.
  • Keep separate forks or utensils for dredging steps to avoid mixing coatings.
  • Prepare slices ahead to save time, or make fully and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  • Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 2-3 minutes to restore crispness; freezing is not recommended.
  • Serve with complementary dips such as Ranch, special sauce, or Sriracha mayo for added flavor.
