Air Fryer Ravioli
Description
Air Fryer Ravioli transforms frozen cheese-filled ravioli into a crunchy treat by dipping them in beaten egg and then coating them with a seasoned mixture of panko bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and salt. The breaded ravioli are cooked in batches in an air fryer at 400°F, which crisps the coating while warming the ravioli through. Spraying the breaded pieces lightly with oil encourages browning and crispiness on the outside without deep frying. This approach gives a nicely textured bite, combining the softness of the ravioli with a crunchy crust.
Because mini ravioli are used, cooking times are relatively short and should be adjusted if using larger ravioli to avoid cheese leakage. Serving suggestions include marinara sauce and fresh herbs for dipping or garnish. The recipe also suggests seasoning variations like adding basil or Italian seasoning to the breadcrumb mix to tweak the flavor profile.
The method allows for cooking multiple batches as needed, which keeps the breaded ravioli from crowding the air fryer and ensures even crisping. Also, thawed or refrigerated ravioli can be used but will require a shorter cooking time. Homemade or store-bought eggs and fresh ingredients contribute to consistent results.
The notes advise avoiding commercial cooking sprays in the air fryer to protect its basket finish, recommending a simple spray bottle with oil instead. Monitoring the cooking time helps prevent overcooking and cheese leaks, maintaining the ravioli's shape and texture.
Ingredients
- 2 egg
- 2 cups panko bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese grated
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 cheese ravioli frozen, mini, bag
- cooking oil in a spray bottle
Instructions
- Put the eggs in a bowl and beat them with a fork to mix.
- Put the bread crumbs, cheese, garlic powder and salt in a bowl and mix it with a fork.
- Take a frozen ravioli out of the bag and dip it in the beaten egg.
- Then dip it in the bread crumb mixture, covering it well.
- Put it on a cutting board while you dip more.
- Once you have enough dipped to fill the basket preheat the air fryer at 400 degrees F for 3 minutes.
- Then add the ravioli to the basket in a single layer. Don't crowd them and don't stack them.
- Spray them with oil in a spray bottle.
- Cook at 400F for 7 minutes. After 3-4 minutes you can pull out the basket, flip them over, and spray them with more oil. This is optional, but it will make them a little bit crispier.
- If you want to cook the rest of the bag make another batch.
- Serve with marinara or other dipping sauce along with fresh herbs and more Parmesan cheese.
Notes
- Season breadcrumb mixture with herbs like basil or Italian seasoning for extra flavor.
- Use a spray bottle with oil rather than commercial cooking spray to protect the air fryer basket.
- Adjust cooking time for larger ravioli or thawed ravioli: reduce time by about 2 minutes for thawed.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even crisping; cook in batches if necessary.
