Air Fryer Ribeye Steak
Description
The process starts by preparing a garlic butter blend combining unsalted butter, minced garlic, fresh thyme leaves, sea salt, and black pepper. This butter can be chilled, shaped, and reserved for serving alongside the steak to add richness and flavor. The ribeye steak, brought to room temperature and patted dry, is brushed with olive oil and seasoned with coarse sea salt and black pepper.
Cooking takes place in a preheated air fryer at 200°C (400°F). The steak is cooked on one side for 6-7 minutes, then flipped and cooked an additional 6-7 minutes, with times adjusted based on thickness and air fryer model. Using a meat thermometer is recommended to check doneness levels accurately. After cooking, resting for five minutes allows steak juices to redistribute for a tender bite.
The final dish can be served with the chilled garlic herb butter melting over the hot meat, enhancing flavor and moisture.
Cooking times vary with steak thickness and quantity, so relying on internal temperature is key. Leftover butter can be refrigerated for later use.
Ingredients
For the garlic butter
- 3 tbsp butter unsalted
- 1 tbsp thyme fresh leaves
- 2 garlic minced, cloves
- ¼ tsp salt sea salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
For the steak
- 1 rib eye steak or as many as you want to serve, thick-cut
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt (coarse sea salt such as Maldon)
- ½ tsp black pepper
Instructions
Prepare the garlic butter
- Add butter to a small bowl, followed by the minced garlic, thyme (fresh herbs can make a big difference here) and salt and pepper. Mix until fully combined.
- Wrap the garlic herb butter mixture in cling film and put in the freezer to chill. Roll flat and cut out small shapes to serve with the steak. You can keep any extra butter in the fridge for later use.
Prepare the steak
- Take the rib eye steak(s) out of the fridge and let them come to room temperature. Pat the steaks dry using a paper towel.
- Brush generously with olive oil on both sides and season with the salt and pepper.
- Preheat your air fryer to 200°C (400°F) for 3-4 minutes. Place the steak in the air fryer basket and cook for 6-7 minutes, flip over and cook for another 6-7 minutes. Use a meat thermometer to check the steak is done to your liking, checking against the table in notes.
- Rest the meat for 5 minutes to allow the juices to settle.
Serve and enjoy!
- Serve the steak with a pat garlic butter, allowing it to melt and enhance the flavor. Serve with french fries or baked potatoes for the perfect side dish!
Notes
- Use a meat thermometer to check doneness as cooking times vary by steak thickness and air fryer model.
- Rest steak for five minutes after cooking to allow juices to redistribute.
- Fresh thyme in the garlic butter provides a noticeable herbal flavor.
- Extra garlic butter can be refrigerated and saved for later meals.
