Air Fryer Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Air Fryer Roasted Sweet Potatoes are made from peeled, cubed sweet potatoes seasoned with a blend of chili powder, paprika, cayenne, and salt. Rinsing and drying the cubes before seasoning helps maintain a soft, pleasant exterior after air frying. The potatoes cook at 400°F for about 12-14 minutes until tender and flavorful, offering a spicy, roasted side dish or snack.

Description

The Air Fryer Roasted Sweet Potatoes recipe uses peeled sweet potato cubes tossed with olive oil and a spice mix including chili powder, paprika, and optional cayenne pepper. Thorough rinsing removes excess starch for even cooking and a smooth texture. The cubes are air fried at 400 degrees Fahrenheit until cooked through, resulting in tender pieces with a slightly crisped, well-seasoned surface.

This dish combines mild sweetness with warming spices, suitable as a side or snack. The air fryer method offers a hands-off approach, cutting cooking time compared to traditional roasting while preserving the sweet potato's moisture and flavor.

For best results, rinse and dry the potato cubes before seasoning, and consider flipping halfway through cooking for more even browning. Additional salt can be added to taste after cooking.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 large sweet potatoes peeled and cut into ½-inch cubes, about 1 pound
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 1-2 dashes cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Peel the sweet potatoes. Slice and cube the potatoes into approximately ½” pieces; this will ensure even cooking.
  2. Rinse with cold water and strain. I SWEAR by this step. If you don’t rinse them the exteriors turn a touch wrinkly and get just the slightest bit tough. Whereas the rinsed ones keep a pleasantly soft exterior.
  3. Pat the rinsed sweet potato cubes dry with a towel. Add the sweet potatoes to a baking sheet and toss with olive oil.
  4. Add salt, chili powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper (optional) to a bowl and stir to combine.
  5. Sprinkle the seasoning evenly over the top of the sweet potatoes, and mix for a minute to distribute the season evenly.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  7. Once preheated, place the baking sheet of sweet potatoes in the air fryer and cook at 400°F for approximately 12-14 minutes. You can flip halfway through if you’d like, but it's not necessary.
  8. Once finished cooking, remove from oven and season with additional salt, if desired.

Notes

  • Rinsing sweet potato cubes before cooking helps achieve a smoother texture and prevents a tough exterior.
  • Pat cubes thoroughly dry before tossing with oil and spices to promote even roasting.
  • Flipping halfway through cooking is optional but can improve evenness of browning.
