Air Fryer Salmon

This Air Fryer Salmon recipe uses a dry rub of brown sugar, chili powder, paprika, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder to season salmon fillets. The salmon is cooked skin-side down in the air fryer at 400°F for about 10 minutes, producing a salmon with balanced sweetness, mild spice, and a flavorful crust while remaining tender inside. Optional asparagus can be added midway for a complementary vegetable side.

Description

Air Fryer Salmon is prepared by seasoning the fillets with salt and pepper, then rubbing on a mixture of brown sugar and spices including chili powder, paprika, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder. Cooking skin-side down in the air fryer basket at 400 degrees Fahrenheit allows the spice rub to form a caramelized exterior while the flesh cooks evenly to tender doneness in 10 minutes.

The combination of brown sugar and spices delivers a slightly sweet and smoky flavor profile with moderate heat and herbal note, enhanced by the caramelization from air frying. This technique cooks the salmon quickly without drying it out and creates a slightly crisp exterior.

Adding asparagus after 5 minutes allows the vegetable to steam and crisp in the residual heat and juices, making a convenient one-basket meal. Serve the salmon alongside the asparagus or with preferred sides.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 pound salmon
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Salt and pepper the salmon. In a small bowl add the brown sugar, chili powder, paprika, Italian seasoning and garlic powder. Rub on the salmon.
  2. In the basket of your air fryer add the salmon skin side down. Turn the air fryer to 400 degrees and cook for 10 minutes. If adding asparagus add to the basket after 5 minutes.

Notes

  • Use skin-on salmon and cook skin-side down to protect the flesh and promote even cooking.
  • The spice rub of brown sugar and seasonings forms a flavorful crust when air fried.
  • If including asparagus, add it to the basket halfway through cooking to cook it alongside the salmon.
