Air Fryer Salmon
Description
The recipe calls for trimming salmon into appropriate portions fitting the air fryer basket and seasoning with a paprika, salt, and black pepper blend. The skin is left on to protect and keep the fish moist. Using parchment paper with holes in the basket eases cleanup and prevents sticking.
Cooking at 400°F for about 8 minutes, without flipping, cooks the salmon through with a pinkish opaque color and easy flaking texture. Checking doneness with a fork or reaching an internal temperature of 145°F ensures properly cooked fish. Additional 1-2 minute increments can finish thicker pieces.
This method produces salmon with a simple seasoning highlighting the fish’s natural flavor, suitable for quick and convenient meals. Variations in seasoning such as Cajun, lemon pepper, or Old Bay can be applied. Frozen fillets require longer cooking and a reliable internal temperature check.
Cooking times will vary depending on thickness and air fryer model, so visual and temperature checks are recommended. Thawing frozen fillets before cooking is preferred for consistent results.
Ingredients
- 1 pound salmon cut into 2-4 portions
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- If necessary trim the salmon into pieces that will fit in your air fryer basket. There is no need to remove the skin.
- Put the salmon skin side down on a cutting board. Mix the paprika, salt and pepper and sprinkle it over the top of the fish.
- Put a sheet of parchment paper (with holes) in the bottom of the air fryer. You can make this without parchment paper, but it simplifies cleanup and keeps the salmon skin from sticking to the basket.
- Transfer the salmon fillets to the air fryer basket, skin side down. Cook at 400 degrees F for 8 minutes. There is no need to flip the salmon during the cooking time.
- Check the salmon by testing it with a fork. If it is pinkish opaque colored and flakes easily it is done. Alternately, you can use an instant read thermometer. The salmon is done at 145 degrees F.
- If it isn't done air fry it at 400 F for another 1-2 minutes until it is done.
Notes
- Cooking time depends on salmon thickness and air fryer model; check with fork or thermometer for doneness.
- Seasoning variations like Cajun, lemon pepper, or Old Bay can be used for different flavors.
- For frozen fillets, increase cooking time to 12-15 minutes and use a thermometer rather than fork test.
- Thaw salmon before cooking when possible for best texture and even cooking.
- Using parchment paper with holes simplifies cleaning and prevents skin sticking to the air fryer basket.
