Air Fryer Salmon
Description
The recipe uses a combination of spices including brown sugar, sweet and smoked paprika, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, and kosher salt to create a nuanced dry rub. Olive oil helps the spice mix adhere and contributes to a slightly crispy exterior post cooking. The salmon fillets are arranged in a single layer in the preheated air fryer basket and cooked at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 to 10 minutes, until opaque and flakey.
The method delivers salmon with moist, tender flesh accented by the sweet-smoky spice crust. The freshness and even thickness of the fillets contribute to uniform cooking. Chopped fresh parsley and an optional squeeze of lemon add a fresh note to the finished dish.
This salmon is suited as a main protein for a variety of meals, pairing well with simple sides like steamed vegetables, rice, or salads. Using the air fryer speeds cooking and avoids added fat while delivering a clean flavor that can be customized by adjusting the spice rub.
For best results, select salmon fillets close in size for even cooking, use fresh or completely thawed fish dried before seasoning, and consider preparing a larger batch of the spice mix in advance.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon paprika sweet
- 3/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/8 teaspoon mustard powder
- 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 1/4 pounds salmon similar sized pieces, fillets
- 1 tablespoon parsley chopped, fresh
- lemon optional, wedges for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F.
- Place the brown sugar, sweet paprika, smoked paprika, black pepper, salt, garlic powder, onion powder and mustard powder in a small bowl. Stir to combine.
- Brush the olive oil over all the sides of the salmon fillets, then rub the spice mixture into the salmon.
- Place the fillets in a single layer in the air fryer. You may need to work in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
- Cook for 8-10 minutes or until salmon is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. Sprinkle with parsley, then serve, with lemon wedges if desired.
Notes
- Choose salmon fillets that are similar in size and shape to ensure even cooking.
- If using frozen salmon, thaw completely and pat dry before seasoning.
- You can substitute the spice blend with your favorite store-bought BBQ rub if desired.
- Prepare extra spice mix to have it ready for future use.
