Air Fryer Salmon
Description
Air Fryer Salmon combines whole grain mustard, honey, minced garlic, and optionally cayenne pepper to create a sweet and tangy glaze with a hint of spice. The salmon fillets are patted dry and seasoned, then brushed liberally with the honey mustard mixture. Cooking at 400ºF in an air fryer basket for 8-9 minutes produces salmon that is tender and flaky with a lightly crisped surface due to the glaze's sugars caramelizing. The quick air frying method helps retain moisture while developing a thin flavorful crust.
Garnishing with fresh thyme enhances the aroma and adds a herbal note. This salmon suits a straightforward presentation alongside vegetables, rice, or salad. It balances sweet, savory, and mildly spicy components without overwhelming the natural salmon flavor.
It can alternatively be baked in the oven at 375ºF for 12-15 minutes. Leftovers keep for up to three days refrigerated and reheat well in either the air fryer or oven, maintaining texture and flavor. Choosing uniformly thick fillets and drying them before glazing help ensure even cooking and prevent mushiness.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard
- 1 1/2 tablespoons honey
- 1 garlic minced, 1 clove
- pinch cayenne pepper optional
- 3 salmon fillets, 6 ounce
- thyme leaves fresh, for garnish
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a small bowl whisk together mustard, honey, garlic, and cayenne (if using).
- Pat each salmon fillet dry with a paper towel and season with salt and pepper.
- Brush honey mustard generously over each salmon fillet. Spray 6 quart air fryer basket with cooking spray and preheat to 400˚F.
- Air fry salmon for 8 to 9 minutes, until tender and flaky.
- Remove fillets from air fryer basket. Sprinkle with fresh herbs and serve.
Notes
- If you don't have an air fryer, bake the salmon at 375°F for 12 to 15 minutes on a parchment-lined sheet.
- Store cooked salmon in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- To reheat, use a preheated air fryer at 375°F for 2 to 3 minutes or oven at 350°F covered with foil for 4 to 6 minutes.
- Select salmon fillets with similar thickness for even cooking results.
- Pat salmon dry before applying the glaze to prevent steaming and ensure a flaky texture.
- Apply the honey mustard glaze generously to form a light crust during cooking.
