Air Fryer Shrimp with Garlic Butter
Description
Air Fryer Shrimp with Garlic Butter combines simple seasoning with the convenience of air frying to yield shrimp that are cooked evenly and retain a juicy texture. The use of olive oil and aromatic seasonings like garlic powder and onion powder gives the shrimp a subtle base flavor enhanced by the garlic butter sauce. The garlic butter is gently heated to release a fragrant aroma without browning, then infused with fresh lemon juice and optional red pepper flakes for a mild kick. Sprinkling parsley adds a fresh herbal note.
The shrimp are cooked in batches to avoid overcrowding in the air fryer basket, ensuring crispy edges without steaming. Once coated in the garlic butter, the shrimp can be served immediately over rice or as a standalone appetizer. This approach highlights the shrimp’s tender texture and the buttery, garlicky sauce without overpowering the palate.
For best results, using fresh garlic in the butter is recommended, and care should be taken to preheat the air fryer to the correct temperature. Leftover shrimp and garlic butter can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to three days, making this recipe practical for meal planning and quick reheating.
Ingredients
For the shrimp
- 1 pound Shrimp peeled, deveined, tails on, large
- 1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper ground
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
For the garlic butter
- 1/2 cup butter unsalted
- 4 garlic minced, cloves fresh
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice freshly squeezed
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
- 1 Tablespoon parsley finely chopped, optional, fresh
Instructions
- Place the shrimp in a large bowl and add the olive oil, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Toss to coat.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400° Fahrenheit. Spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray, then add the shrimp to the air fryer in a single layer without overlapping. Air fry for 6 minutes or until the shrimp is pink, curled, and opaque. Repeat with the remaining shrimp.
- While the shrimp are cooking in the air fryer, melt the butter in a small skillet or sauce pan over medium-low heat. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Take the pan off the heat and whisk in the lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, red pepper flakes, and parsley, if using.
- Drizzle the garlic butter over the cooked shrimp and serve over rice if desired.
Notes
- Use fresh minced garlic in the garlic butter for optimal flavor instead of jarred garlic packed in oil.
- Cook shrimp in batches to avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket, which helps achieve an even cook and crispy texture.
- Preheat the air fryer before adding shrimp to ensure proper cooking temperature and better results.
- Adjust cooking time depending on the size of the shrimp used; jumbo shrimp typically cook within 6 minutes.
- Store any leftover shrimp with garlic butter in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
