Air Fryer Steak
Description
The Air Fryer Steak recipe uses ribeye or New York Strip steaks seasoned with olive oil, salt, and pepper, then cooked at 400°F in the air fryer. The intense circulating heat crisps the steak's exterior while keeping the center tender and juicy, adjustable to your preference for medium rare or medium well by varying cooking time. Adding butter on top after cooking adds a layer of richness and helps the steak rest to redistribute its juices.
The texture features a well-browned crust with a tender, flavorful inside typical of these cuts. The air fryer method requires less active cooking time and no flipping after the first 5 minutes, allowing easy monitoring.
Serve the sliced steak with your choice of sides such as roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh salad. This approach is helpful when you want a straightforward way to prepare steak without grilling or pan-frying.
For best results, select steaks of even thickness to ensure consistent cooking. Letting the meat reach room temperature before cooking helps achieve even doneness. Resting the steak with butter before slicing keeps it juicy. Nutrition varies based on cut and size.
Ingredients
- 2 ribeye steak or New York Strip steaks, about 1-inch thickness
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- Allow the steaks to come to room temperature for 30 minutes.
- Then pat them dry with a paper towel. Rub the steak with olive oil and season with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Arrange a single layer of the steaks in the air fryer basket and air fry for 5 minutes, then flip and air fry for 5-7 more minutes, until cooked through, and internal temperature reaches between 135°F for medium rare or 150°F for medium well.
- Add the salted butter on top and allow the steak to rest for 5 minutes. Slice and serve with a side of your choice
Notes
- Choose steaks with an even thickness to help them cook uniformly in the air fryer.
- Let the steak come to room temperature before cooking to ensure even doneness.
- Allow the steak to rest with butter on top after cooking to retain juices and improve flavor.
