Air Fryer Steak Fries Recipe
Description
This recipe uses large russet potatoes sliced into wedges, tossed with avocado oil, seasoning salt, garlic powder, and onion powder for a balanced savory flavor. Optional addition of grated Parmesan cheese before cooking adds a nutty, salty crust. The fries cook in an air fryer at 400°F for about 20 minutes, flipped halfway to ensure even crispiness and golden edges while preserving a soft inside.
The steak fries develop a crisp, textured outer layer with a fluffy interior. Sprinkling with extra Parmesan and fresh or dried parsley after frying enhances the taste and presentation. Season to taste with salt and black pepper before serving.
These fries pair well with a variety of dipping sauces such as ranch, barbecue, honey teriyaki, bacon aioli, or classic ketchup, making them versatile accompaniments to meals or served as appetizers.
Frozen steak fries can be cooked similarly, though time may vary. Leftovers store well refrigerated for up to a week or frozen for longer periods. Reheating in the air fryer at 370°F for a few minutes crisps them back up, avoiding sogginess common with other reheating methods.

- 2 large russet potato or 4 small (Yukon gold or red may also be used

Optional Toppings
- 1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese grated
- black pepper to taste
- kosher salt to taste
- 1 teaspoon parsley or 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, dried
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 400° F (205° C) and if needed spray the basket with a bit of spray oil.
- Wash and pat dry potatoes, slice potatoes into wedges. In a large bowl, toss potatoes with oil or spray well and sprinkle with seasonings and parmesan cheese if using. Toss to combine.
- Spread the potatoes out in the air fryer so they aren’t touching, if necessary do in batches, air fry for 20 minutes.
- Half way through cooking, turn or shake the steak fries. Cook longer if more crispy fries are desired.
- Remove from the air fryer and sprinkle with a little additional parmesan cheese and parsley if desired. Taste and add additional kosher salt and pepper if needed, enjoy immediately for best taste and texture.
Notes
- Use avocado oil or its spray for coating to promote crispiness; avoid nonstick sprays that can affect texture.
- For frozen fries, cook at 400°F for 13-20 minutes, adjusting time based on desired crispiness and fryer model.
- Keep fries warm by preheating the oven to 200°F and layering fries on a baking sheet while finishing cooking batches.
- Store leftover fries in an airtight container in the fridge up to 1 week or freeze after flash freezing in a single layer.
- Reheat fries in the air fryer at 370°F for 3 minutes to restore crispness efficiently.
