All Natural Pineapple Cough Syrup
Description
The syrup uses fresh pineapple chunks, including the core, blended with honey for sweetness, fresh ginger for zing and warmth, cayenne pepper for gentle heat, and lemon juice for acidity. Blending these creates a smooth mixture that can be strained for a finer texture if preferred. The ingredients work together to create a syrup that is thick and flavorful, carrying natural compounds often used in home remedies for cough relief.
Stored refrigerated, the syrup remains fresh for up to a week and is taken as needed to soothe cough discomfort.
Note that it's not recommended for children under one year old, and medical attention is advised if cough symptoms worsen or persist beyond four days, involve blood or colored mucus, or cause breathing issues.
Ingredients
- 3 pineapple fresh, sliced, peel removed, core intact, about 3 cups
- 1 Tbsp honey
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper omit or reduce for children
- ginger peeled and sliced or rough chopped, fresh, thumb sized piece
- lemon juice of 1
Instructions
- Give the pineapple a rough chop, including the core, which is not only edible but particularly healthy.
- Blend everything up in a blender or food processor until smooth.
- Use as is, or push the mixture through a mesh strainer to get a smoother syrup.
- Keep in the refrigerator and take as needed. Will keep for up to a week.
Notes
- Do not give this syrup to children under one year of age due to honey content.
- If cough persists longer than four days or is accompanied by blood, thick greenish-yellow mucus, or breathing difficulty, seek immediate medical care.
