All-Purpose Turkey Meatballs

These turkey meatballs combine ground lean turkey with panko, herbs, onion, and egg for a flavorful, moist result. Baking them yields gently firm meatballs with a tender interior. The mild seasoning can be adjusted, and cooking them at the correct temperature prevents dryness. These meatballs suit various dishes, from pasta to sandwiches or as appetizers.

Description

The All-Purpose Turkey Meatballs recipe blends lean ground turkey with panko breadcrumbs and herbs like basil, oregano, and parsley. Finely diced onion and egg bind the mixture while seasoning with garlic powder, salt, and pepper adds depth. The gentle mixing ensures a tender texture without toughness.

Shaped into one-inch meatballs and baked at 375°F, they're cooked through while retaining moisture. Monitoring internal temperature to 165°F ensures food safety without overbaking. Baking also avoids added fat compared to frying.

The meatballs can be served with tomato sauce, added to soups, or enjoyed as snacks. Using softened cooked onion instead of raw can mellow the flavor. Wetting hands helps form uniform meatballs easily.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 pound ground turkey lean
  • ½ cup panko bread crumbs
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ cup parsley or 1 tablespoon dried parsley, chopped, fresh
  • ¼ cup white onion finely diced
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon basil dried
  • ¼ teaspoon oregano dried

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a rimmed baking pan with parchment paper or foil.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, dried basil, oregano, parsley, minced white onion, egg, salt, and pepper.
  3. Gently mix all ingredients just until combined, do not overmix. Divide the meat mixture, rolling into 24 meatballs, 1-inch in diameter. Place on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 18-22 minutes or until the meatballs reach an internal temperature of 165°F. (Do not overbake).

Notes

  • Soften white onion by cooking it briefly in butter before adding to the mixture for a milder taste.
  • Mix ingredients only until combined to avoid dense meatballs.
  • If the mixture feels sticky, roll meatballs with wet hands to prevent sticking.
  • Ensure meatballs reach an internal temperature of 165°F for safe consumption.
