Amazing Easy Turkey Tacos (with a slow cooker option!)
Description
The turkey taco meat is prepared by browning ground turkey and diced onion in olive oil, breaking up the meat as it cooks. Garlic, tomato sauce, and spices including cumin, chili powder, oregano, paprika, cayenne, and salt are added. For stovetop cooking, water is added and the mixture simmers until thickened. For slow cooker preparation, ingredients are combined and cooked on high for 2-3 hours or low for 6-7 hours.
Tacos are assembled by scooping the cooked turkey mixture into soft corn or flour tortillas and garnished with optional toppings such as chopped tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, diced avocado or guacamole, shredded lettuce, and sliced jalapeños. The toppings provide fresh texture contrasts and complementary flavors.
These tacos make a flexible meal option that caters to different cooking preferences and dietary needs. They can be customized by omitting cheese for dairy-free diets or using gluten-free tortillas. Optionally, a dollop of Greek yogurt can be added for creaminess if desired.
