Amazing Steamed Broccoli - Instant Pot Pressure Cooker
Description
A whole head of broccoli is trimmed into large, evenly sized florets and placed in a steamer basket inside the Instant Pot with one cup of water. The Instant Pot is set to manual high pressure for zero minutes, effectively steaming the broccoli instantly under pressure. Many prefer to use low pressure for the same zero-minute timing to obtain a crunchier texture.
Once the cooking cycle finishes, a quick manual pressure release ensures the broccoli doesn't overcook. Removing the steamer basket promptly is important, and rinsing the broccoli under cold water is an optional step to halt the cooking process further, preserving vibrant green color and crispness.
Seasoning with salt and black pepper is added according to taste before serving. This method enables fast preparation of broccoli with consistent tenderness and minimal hands-on time. Doubling or tripling broccoli quantities does not affect steaming time due to the pressure cooking method.
Ingredients
- 1 broccoli head
- 1 cup water
- salt to taste (optional)
- black pepper to taste (optional)
Instructions
- Wash the broccoli and cut it into equal large size florets.
- Add water to the instant pot insert. Place the steamer basket in the instant pot insert. Spread the broccoli florets on the steamer basket.
- Start the instant pot and set it on manual or pressure cook mode for 0 minutes on high pressure with vent in sealing position. (Update: Many readers enjoy crunchier broccoli, for which 0 minutes at low pressure works great)
- When the instant pot beeps, quick release the pressure manually. Remove the steamer basket carefully as it is hot.
- You can place this basket under cold water for a minute to stop the cooking (optional) or just eat the broccoli right away.
- Season with salt, pepper and enjoy.
Notes
- Broccoli heads or frozen broccoli can be cooked similarly in the Instant Pot using this method.
- Quick pressure release and immediate removal of broccoli prevent overcooking and preserve texture.
- The cooking time remains the same even when increasing broccoli quantity.
