Amish Friendship Bread
Description
This Amish Friendship Bread recipe uses a unique starter combined with a batter of neutral oil, eggs, milk, vanilla, sugar, flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, and instant vanilla pudding mix. The pudding mix adds tenderness and moisture, while cinnamon enhances warmth in the flavor. Nuts can be optionally folded in for texture.
The dough is divided into greased loaf pans dusted with a cinnamon-sugar mixture, with additional sprinkling over the batter to create a sweet, spiced crust as it bakes. Baking at 325 degrees for about an hour yields a golden, soft bread with a moist interior and a slightly crisp sugary topping.
This bread is suitable for sliceable loaves or can be adapted to muffin portions with adjusted baking times, offering versatility. The cinnamon sugar topping adds a bright, sweet finish that enriches the overall aromatic experience. The starter starter contributes to the bread’s characteristic subtle tang and moist texture distinct to Amish Friendship Bread traditions.
Muffins, baked at a higher temperature initially then lowered, develop a tender top with a good crumb, making the bread suitable for on-the-go snack portions or a breakfast treat.
