Amish Friendship Bread Recipe

Amish Friendship Bread is a soft sweet bread baked in loaf pans with a cinnamon sugar topping that creates a caramelized crust. The batter uses butter, sugar, eggs, buttermilk, and baking soda for a tender, moist crumb. It's a comforting treat suitable for breakfast or snacks.

Description

This Amish Friendship Bread combines basic baking ingredients including butter, sugar, eggs, and buttermilk to create a rich and moist loaf. Baking soda provides leavening for a tender crumb. A cinnamon sugar mixture is sprinkled between layers of the batter and on top to create a sweet, spiced crust that adds texture and flavor contrast. Dividing the batter into two loaf pans allows for even baking.

The bread bakes at 350°F for 45-50 minutes until set and golden. Cooling before removing from the pans helps maintain the loaf's structure. The cinnamon sugar topping melts slightly into the bread, giving it a pleasant sweetness and spice that complements the soft interior.

This bread works well served sliced for breakfast, as a snack, or alongside coffee or tea. Adding a bit more cinnamon can enhance the spiced flavor without altering the baking process.

  3. Evenly add remaining batter to your two pans; sprinkle the rest of your cinnamon topping.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until baked through.
  5. Cool for 20 minutes before removing from pan. Enjoy!

Notes

  • This recipe yields two loaves that can be shared or enjoyed over several days.
  • Adding a little extra cinnamon to the topping enhances the warm spice character without affecting texture.
  • Let the bread cool for about 20 minutes before removing it from pans to keep the loaves intact.
