Description
The Apple Dump Cake uses apple pie filling combined with fresh diced apples spread in a pan as the moist fruit layer. A dry vanilla or spice cake mix is sprinkled evenly over the fruit without mixing. Melted butter is drizzled over the top to moisten the cake mix as it bakes, creating a crumbly, tender topping. Cinnamon adds warm spice fragrance and flavor.
As the cake bakes, the fruit layer softens and becomes juicy, while the cake mix browns and crisps slightly on edges. The result is a dessert with tender fruit beneath a sweet, moist, and lightly crisped top.
Fresh apples enhance natural texture but are optional. Different cake mixes alter flavor and should not be mixed into the filling. The butter coverage is key to avoid dry areas.
Ingredients
- 15.25 ounces vanilla cake mix white cake, yellow cake or spice cake mix
- 42 ounces apple pie filling 2 x 21 ounces each
- 3 large apple optional
- ¾ cup butter melted
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon or to taste, or 1 tablespoon cinnamon sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x13 pan.
- Peel apples, remove the core, and dice into bite-sized pieces. Spread diced apples on the bottom of the prepared bottom. Top with apple pie filling.
- Evenly sprinkle cake mix over top of pie filling. DO NOT MIX.
- Pour melted butter over cake mix and sprinkle cinnamon on top.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes or until browned and cooked through.
Notes
- Including fresh diced apples adds texture and fresh apple flavor.
- Use white, yellow, or spice cake mix based on preference; do not mix the layers.
- Ensure melted butter covers most of the cake mix evenly to prevent dry patches.
