Asian BBQ Lil' Smokies

Asian BBQ Lil' Smokies combine bite-sized hot dog pieces with a richly spiced sauce featuring garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and brown sugar. The sausages slow-cook in this flavorful blend, resulting in tender, savory bites with a balance of sweet, tangy, and mildly spicy notes. This dish works well as a warm appetizer or snack at gatherings, with optional sesame seeds adding a nutty finish.

Description

Asian BBQ Lil' Smokies bring together chopped hot dogs simmered in a sauce made from garlic, ground ginger, chili powder, diced onion, reduced-sodium soy sauce, light brown sugar, rice vinegar, ketchup, mustard, and sesame oil. The sauce is sautéed and softened before blending into a chunky puree and combined with the sausage pieces in a crockpot. Slow cooking at low heat allows the flavors to meld, tenderizing the sausages and infusing them with the sauce’s sweet, tangy, and mildly spicy profile.

The texture is a pleasing combination of soft, juicy sausage segments and a thick, rich sauce coating. This method extends cooking gently to develop depth in the sauce while maintaining sausage integrity. It is served warm, optionally garnished with sesame seeds that add a subtle crunch and toasted aroma.

These Lil' Smokies function well as finger food at casual events or game days. Their bold, balanced sauce offers a flavorful contrast to the mild sausage, while the slow cooker helps keep them hot and ready to serve.

For best results, serve them directly from the slow cooker to maintain warmth throughout your event. This approach simplifies preparation and serving while keeping the dish at its tastiest.
