Asparagus Stir Fry
Description
This recipe emphasizes using a bunch of asparagus trimmed to remove the hard white bottoms, which can taste bitter and tough. Washing the spears ensures cleanliness before cooking. Cooking starts with heating vegetable oil in a pan, followed by adding the asparagus and seasoning with garlic powder and salt.
The addition of water and covering the pan for 1 to 2 minutes generates steam to finish cooking the asparagus gently. After removing the lid, a short stir fry completes the dish, retaining a little firmness especially in the lower stems, which is ideal for good texture.
Choosing thinner asparagus spears is encouraged because they cook faster and maintain a pleasant texture. The dish has a simple flavor profile relying on basic seasoning and quick cooking to keep the asparagus fresh and tasty. It can be served as a side or part of a light meal.
The recipe advises against overcooking and highlights visual and tactile cues like brightness and slight softness in the stems as readiness indicators.
