Avocado Dip Recipe

This avocado dip combines ripe avocado, fresh cilantro, lime juice, jalapeño, sour cream, and spices into a smooth, creamy blend. The mild heat from de-seeded jalapeño balances the richness of avocado and sour cream, accented by citrus and herbs. Served fresh, it offers a cool, tangy, and mildly spicy accompaniment to chips or vegetables.

Description

The Avocado Dip Recipe uses sliced avocado, cilantro leaves, lime juice, jalapeño peppers with seeds removed, sour cream, kosher salt, cumin, and garlic powder. These are blended in a food processor until smooth, creating a creamy texture with subtle spicy and earthy notes from cumin and jalapeño. The lime juice adds brightness, and cilantro enhances herbal freshness.

This preparation produces a mild dip, thanks to removing jalapeño seeds and ribs, suitable for those preferring gentle heat. It can also be made chunkier by mashing ingredients by hand for a different texture.

Best served immediately to enjoy the vibrant green color and fresh flavor, as avocado browns when exposed to air over time. It pairs well with tortilla chips, vegetables, or as a spread in sandwiches, complementing a variety of dishes with its creamy, tangy profile.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 1/2 cups avocado sliced
  • 1/2 cup cilantro leaves
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons jalapeño seeds and ribs removed, then coarsely chopped
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • cilantro leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Place the avocado, cilantro leaves, lime juice, jalapeno, sour cream, salt, cumin and garlic powder in the bowl of a food processor.
  2. Process until completely smooth, 1-2 minutes. Taste and add more salt if desired.
  3. Garnish with cilantro leaves, then serve.

Notes

  • Serve the dip immediately for best color and flavor, as avocado oxidizes quickly.
  • For a chunkier texture, mix ingredients by hand instead of processing.
  • Leaving jalapeño seeds increases the heat for those who prefer a spicier dip.
