Avocado Fries
Description
This recipe starts by slicing ripe avocados into thick slices, which are then dipped in a flour mixture seasoned with chili powder, garlic powder, and salt. After dredging in beaten egg, the slices are coated in panko breadcrumbs for a crunchy coating. Lightly sprayed with oil, they cook to a crisp finish.
The cooking method can be air frying at 400°F for around 7 to 8 minutes, turning halfway, or baking in an oven at 425°F for 12-15 minutes, also flipped halfway. Both methods yield a golden-brown, crunchy exterior while preserving the creamy avocado inside.
They are served hot with a spicy mayo dipping sauce made from Greek yogurt, light mayonnaise, lemon juice, and sriracha, adding a creamy, tangy, and mildly spicy contrast.
The fries can be stored for up to 24 hours but are best freshly made. Reheating in an air fryer or toaster oven helps maintain texture better than microwaving.
Ingredients
- 2 large avocado sliced into ½ inch slices
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 egg
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
Spicy Mayo Dipping Sauce
- 3 tablespoons Greek yogurt
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise light
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice fresh
- 2 teaspoons sriracha
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix the flour with the chili powder, garlic powder and salt. Place the beaten egg in another bowl and the panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
- Dredge the avocado in the flour mixture, then the egg and finally the panko breadcrumbs, pressing down lightly until the crumbs stick. Spray both sides with oil.
- For the air fryer, air fry at 400°F. until about for 7 to 8 minutes, turning halfway through until golden brown.
- For the oven, bake on a greased baking sheet lined at 425°F for 12-15 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden brown.
- Serve hot with spicy mayo dipping sauce, if desired.
Notes
- Store leftover avocado fries in an airtight container for up to 24 hours; they are best eaten within a few hours for optimal texture.
- Reheat in an air fryer at 360°F for 1-2 minutes or in a toaster oven to maintain crispiness; microwaving is possible but may soften coating.
- For best results, adhere to the spice and oil recommendations, though spices can be substituted according to preference.
