Avocado Salsa Verde Dip

Avocado Salsa Verde Dip combines ripe avocados with tangy tomatillos, jalapeño, cilantro, onion, garlic, and lime juice for a creamy, mildly spicy dip. The use of fresh tomatillos and jalapeño adds a bright, zesty flavor with heat adjustable by seed inclusion. The dip has a smooth texture suitable for serving with chips or as a flavorful accompaniment.

Description

This recipe blends peeled and chopped tomatillos, seeded jalapeño, ripe avocado, cilantro, onion, garlic, lime juice, salt, garlic powder, and cumin in a food processor until smooth. The amount of jalapeño seeds can be adjusted to control spiciness. Lime juice adds brightness, while cumin and garlic powder deepen the flavor profile.

The result is a creamy dip that balances the tartness of tomatillos with the richness of avocado. It can be served immediately or chilled, making it versatile for snacks or parties. The texture is thick enough for dipping but can be thinned with water for a salsa-like consistency.

The dip keeps well when refrigerated, allowing leftovers to be stored for a few days. Its flavor profile pairs well with tortilla chips, tacos, or grilled meats as an accompaniment.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 10 oz tomatillos (approx. 5-6 tomatillos)
  • 1 jalapeno pepper large
  • 2 avocado ripe
  • 1 lime (juice half and extra based on preference)
  • ½ cup cilantro roughly chopped
  • cup onion yellow or white, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic
  • ½ tsp salt plus extra to taste
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp cumin

Instructions

  1. Remove husk from tomatillos, rinse, pat dry, and coarsely chop.
  2. Remove the stem and seeds from your jalapeño, and chop. To control the heat of this dip, you can add as much or as little of the seeds as you want. This can be done at any time so feel free to taste the final product before spicing things up!
  3. Add all the ingredients to your food processor or blender and puree until well blended.
  4. Dig in! Leftover dip may be kept tightly wrapped the fridge for a few days.

Notes

  • Adjust jalapeño seeds to control the dip's heat level according to preference.
  • Thin with up to 1/4 cup water for a looser, salsa-like consistency if desired.
  • This recipe yields approximately 3 cups of dip, suitable for sharing.
  • Store leftovers in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator for a few days to maintain freshness.
