Avocado sauce
Description
The Avocado sauce recipe combines ripe avocado chunks with chopped cilantro, lime juice, crushed garlic, seeded jalapeno peppers, and olive oil. Blending these together produces a smooth, creamy sauce with fresh herbal notes and a mild spiciness from the jalapeno, which can be substituted with green bell pepper for a milder version.
The lime juice provides a tangy brightness that balances the richness of the avocado and the earthiness of cumin if included. This sauce can be used immediately or refrigerated for later use.
This versatile sauce pairs well with grilled foods, as a dip, or as a dressing addition. Crushing the garlic beforehand helps avoid large bites of raw garlic in the sauce.
Ingredients
- 2 avocado ripe
- lime juice adjust to taste, juice of 2-4 small limes
- 1 cilantro chopped, medium sized bunch
- 2-3 jalapeno pepper seeded and deveined (use green bell pepper for a non-spicy version, or serrano peppers
- 3-4 garlic crushed - adjust to taste, cloves
- 1/4 cup olive oil or avocado oil for a neutral flavor
- 1 teaspoon cumin adjust to taste, ground; optional
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Combine all the ingredients in a blender; it helps the blending process if the avocados are in small chunks and the cilantro is lightly chopped. I also recommend crushing the garlic before putting it in the blender to ensure no one gets a surprise large piece of garlic.
- Blend until you have a smooth sauce. Use immediately or refrigerate until ready to use.
