Avocado Toast Recipe (Easy & Healthy)

This avocado toast features garlic bread toasted to a crisp base topped with a creamy avocado mixture seasoned with garlic, oregano, black pepper, lemon juice, and salt. The avocado is scooped and either chopped or mashed, ensuring a buttery texture that spreads easily. Brushing the toast with extra virgin olive oil adds richness and a slight gloss to the finished slices. It provides a balanced combination of crispness from the toast and a fresh, herb-seasoned topping, ideal for a nutritious breakfast or light snack.

Description

The Avocado Toast Recipe uses slices of garlic bread or other preferred bread types, toasted gently on a griddle or skillet to bring out a crunchy exterior. The filling combines fresh avocado pulp mixed with minced garlic and seasoned with dried oregano, black pepper, salt, and lemon juice to prevent discoloration. This creates a flavorful, creamy spread that contrasts nicely with the crisp toast. A light brushing of extra virgin olive oil on the toasted bread adds moisture and richness before adding the avocado mixture.

The toast can be served as a standalone meal or snack with additional toppings such as sprouts, herbs, olives, onions, or tomatoes to customize flavor and texture. This recipe highlights the freshness and simplicity of the avocado blend paired with the savory garlic bread without overpowering it.

Preparation is straightforward, making it possible to double or triple the quantities based on the number of servings. The use of whole wheat garlic bread lends an earthy flavor and more fiber to the dish, while the seasoning balances fatty avocado with bright lemon and spicy black pepper notes.

Ingredients

Servings

for the toasts

  • 8 to 10 lices garlic bread (whole wheat) or baguette or french loaf or whole wheat bread
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil for brushing or as needed
  • 1 garlic halved, clove

for the avocado filling

  • 1 avocado - medium to large
  • 1 garlic minced or finely chopped, small to medium size, clove
  • ½ teaspoon oregano or add as required, opt for preferred herbs instead, dried
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper or add as required, crushed
  • ¼ teaspoon lemon juice or add as required
  • salt as required

Instructions

  1. Firstly slice a garlic loaf or a french bread.
  2. Then heat a griddle or tawa or skillet. Place the loaf slices on it. Toast them on a low to medium flame.
  3. Whilst the bread is getting toasted, we prepare the avocado filling. Take an avocado. Rinse if you want. Then give a cut at the center moving around the entire avocado.
  4. We want the avocado in two halves. Remove the seed.
  5. With a spoon, scoop out the entire avocado flesh, which is like butter and gets removed easily.
  6. Place the scooped avocado flesh on chopping board and then chop. Or you can mash the avocado pulp in a bowl.
  7. Add the chopped avocado in a mixing bowl. Also add 1 small to medium garlic clove (finely chopped or minced)
  8. Season with ½ teaspoon oregano (or add as required), crushed black pepper (as required), salt and a few drops of lemon juice. The lemon juice prevents the discoloration.
  9. Mix well and keep aside.
  10. Once the slices are toasted, then brush some extra virgin olive on top.
  11. Halve a garlic and rub the garlic on all the bread slices.
  12. Now gently place the avocado filling on the toasted bread slices. If you want you can even sprinkle some red chili flakes.
  13. Serve avocado toast as soon as you make them.
