Bacon and Cream Cheese Stuffed Mushrooms

This recipe fills large white mushroom caps with a savory mixture of chopped fried bacon, cooked mushroom stems and onion, cream cheese, hot sauce, breadcrumbs, and chives. Baked until the tops crisp, these stuffed mushrooms offer a rich, creamy filling with smoky bacon and a hint of heat, balanced by the tender mushroom base. They work well as an appetizer or savory snack.

Description

Bacon and Cream Cheese Stuffed Mushrooms start with cleaning large white mushrooms and removing their stems. The chopped stems and onion are sautéed with chopped fried bacon in reserved bacon fat, seasoned with salt, pepper, and dried oregano until tender and moisture evaporates. This savory base is mixed with cream cheese, hot sauce, panko breadcrumbs, and chives to create a creamy, slightly spicy filling.

The mixture is spooned evenly into each mushroom cap, which are arranged on a baking pan and baked at 425°F for 10 to 15 minutes until the filling is hot and the tops develop a crisp texture. The dish offers a contrast between the soft mushroom cap and creamy interior with the crisp bacon bits throughout and a subtle herb note from oregano and chives.

These stuffed mushrooms make a rich appetizer or snack, appealing to those who appreciate savory, creamy, and smoky flavors with a touch of spice. The hot sauce can be adjusted for heat preference.
